- 2005 News and Press Releases
September 2005 – The
United States Air Force awards a $750k Phase II SBIR to Iris
AO to build
an
adaptive-optics equipped confocal
scanning laser ophthalmoscope (AOcSLO) and laser delivery system
to study laser damage thresholds. The technology will deliver diffraction-limited
imaging and laser delivery performance.
September 2005 – Iris AO begins research on a Phase II SBIR
awarded from the National Science Foundation to develop a PZT Multimorph
MOEMS Deformable Mirror. The research grant will develop piezoelectric
actuators for Iris AO’s already successful segmented MEMS
deformable mirrors. Piezoelectric actuators promise to decrease
actuation voltages from 100-200V down to 10-20V while maintaining
stroke performance.
July
2005 – The National
Academy of Engineering selects Iris AO founder Michael Helmbrecht,
Ph.D. to participate in the 11th annual Frontiers of Engineering
program. The select group of chosen participants is a mix
of leaders
in academia and industry. Read the National Academy of Engineering's
